Gloss and color

I love having a good glossy shine to my lips.  Over the years, i found it is hard to 1) find a gloss that is not sticky, 2) find a gloss that provides enough color on it’s own, 3) find a gloss that is hydrating.

SO, my compromise has always been to use a lipstick first and gloss on top.  Here are some of my top contenders for daily use:

the nice thing about tarte® (top and middle on left), is that their glosses are not that sticky.  they are very moisturizing, especially since they started their whole maracuja collection.  the colors are ok but they don’t stay on for very long

make up forever® (bottom left) – not that sticky either.  colors are great.  not that moisturizing

hourglass® is expensive, but the lipstick is really nice – good color, very moisturizing.  gloss is ok on stickiness meter

benefit® is sticky but always has a sparkle.

korres® – gloss is too sticky, but moisutrizing and color is good.

my favorite gloss?  hands down, laura mercier®.  not sticky AT ALL.  woot woot!   color is great but i still wear with a lipstick underneath.  i first tried this with a sample from sephora (yup, i’m a VIB rouge) and attempted to try other colors at the counter inside bloomingdales’.  the sales associate totally ignored me and attended to middle aged lady who had no idea about make up instead.  so, it took me a while to get what i needed and now i’m hooked!

it is hard to always use both when you are traveling.  so i’m always on the hunt for something that can do both.  a good option is this one from BITE®:

a couple of years ago, i discovered argan oil on my trip to korea.  skin food® makes this hair mask that makes your hair healthy and shiny.  so when i saw that josie maran has a lipstick with color in center and argan oil around it,  i bought it right away.  unfortunately, the color is just ok and it makes my lips very dry.

as a VIB Rouge member of sephora,  i got a free make up consultation this year at the store.  it was then that i got introduced to YSL’s lipstain.  OMG.  this is great.  color and shine together!  not like some of those stains that take make up remover and then some to take off, but it does stay on for a good amount of time and shine lasts with it!  but it’s expensive – so special occasions only for now!

so pucker up!  here’s to glossy and color!
