At a local food truck gathering this weekend, I checked out a truck called Bacon Bacon SF. With a name like that and coming straight from a spin class at the gym, it was a no brainer for me to eat here!
On the menu, they had sandwiches, fries, and desserts that all contained some bacon! I tried these two sandwiches with my sister…
Bacon Fried Chicken sandwich – panko and bacon encrusted chicken breast, with cole slaw and bacon mayo. The chicken was cooked a bit dry, which not unexpected since it is fried to order in a truck. The cole slaw was tangy and mayo were great, but the thicker part of the dry chicken was too overpowering and made it hard to eat. Flavors were all there but would have been more successful if the chicken breast was not so dry and there was enough condiment to go with the thicker part. But kudos for using a real piece of breast (hence, the lopsidedness) and not using tenders or processed fillets.
The Belly – crispy pork belly, fried egg, arugula, and caper aioli. This was fantastic. The pork belly was tender and perfectly cooked. The egg yolk, still runny, cleverly combines the arugula to the aioli and pork, while adding another depth to the flavor and textures in the sandwiches. Would definitely eat this again!
