At Off the Grid© this week, there was a truck for chicken and waffles – my favorite combination! The Waffle Roost has a variety of sweet and savory combinations featuring fried chicken, along with some choice Southern sides. Not in the mood for chicken, there are also a variety of sweet waffle offerings as well. The line was long but it was worth it!
I chose “the stack” – a sandwich made of fried chicken, egg and bacon served inside two slices of waffles and drizzled with honey. The waffles had the flavors of french toast – cinnamon and sugar baked into the dough. The chicken was perfectly fried and the buttermilk crust had great crunch and flavoring. The combo of egg and bacon with honey on top was a bit decadent, but it was delicious! Besides, if you are going to eat fried chicken and waffles, you might as well go all the way!
And with sweet potato chips on the side, what a meal!
