I was back at the Dock last week for another great meal in Oakland, California. I was greeted by Chef Syhabout himself but was too star struck to get any words out. 😦 Unfortunately, he was gone by the time I turned around – modest and wonderful…and wearing a wedding ring. 😛
We both started off our meal with Fruitvale Avenue cocktails
made with tequila, watermelon, green chartreuse, lime, and salt. YUM.
We shared this starter of monterey squid on smoked eggplant puree, tomatoes, mint and toasted crumb. Always amazed by chef’s combination of flavors and textures. Loved it.
We couldn’t decide on a main dish and so we shared two:
The grilled ocean trout with squash, roe, sunchoke soymilk, sunflower seeds and sprouts: The fist was so tender and again with the flavors and textures.
The berkshire pork shoulder with broccoli di ciccio, miso, pluots, plumps and cracking: two words – stone fruit and cracklings. I’m sold!! The pork was so tender and everything came together so well.
And dessert was their olive oil cake with bourbon thyme meringue, spiced peanuts, and peaches. I liked the sundae more from my last visit, but this was still yummy.
Like my friend said, what a great meal – can’t want to come back!
