duende on a monday

A couple of weeks, I met my friend at Duende in Oakland for a Monday night dinner.  http://www.duendeoakland.com/

We hadn’t seen each other in a while, so we got a couple of cocktails to get things started for a leisurely evening of gossip and catching up.

image  For me, a white sangria and for my friend a grapefruit cocktail.

As any good meal of pintxos and tapas, we always start off with patatas brava:image

This is the Duende Sobrasada:

image  A spicy spreadable lamb chorizo with piparras and piquillos over plancha toast.  I’m not a huge fan of lamb but this is not half bad.

Their bacalao is always a winner:

Fried salt cod with chicories, piquillos and aioli.  Yum.

Their croquetas de jamon with aioli:

Of all the rice dishes, this is my favorite at Duende – the Arroz Negro:

image  Bomba rice with lobster aioli and a beautiful collection of seafood – mussels, seafood chorizo, squid ink and shaved fennel.  Love the flavors and the textures.  I especially love that it only has seafood, so that my pescatarian friends can enjoy it too!

For dessert, our coffee came out in these sweet individual trays:

We shared their plum cake with custard:

But overwhelmingly wonderful is their chocolate flan:
