India Palace in Alameda

Off Webster street in Alameda, California, there is a house always exuding the smells of exotic spices.  Looking twice, you realize it’s not a house but a restaurant called India Palace.  I went there a couple of weeks ago with a good friend of mine.  She loves this place and is quite a regular here.  I was pleasantly satisfied with some of the best Indian food I have had in a long time.

Their selection is all of your standard and traditional Indian fare.  No fusion, generous portions, and bold spices.

To start things off, we got some pakora – fish:

and aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato):

We got their aloo gobi masala:

Their bhindi masala:

Their baingan bharta

And then my favorite, the fish tandoori:

With your dishes come with large portions of rice:

and spicy crackers with dipping sauce:

But that didn’t stop me from getting some naan!

Plain with butter and also stuffed, with herbs and butter on top, these were a great meal in itself.  For their stuffed naan, I got an order of their kabuli naan with nuts, raisins coconuts and cherries (on the left) and then aloo with potatoes (on the right).  They are also pretty good the next day after reheating in the toaster!

Finishing off the meal, was a beautiful cup of chai tea:
